BrightPoint for Children

Kiria is a new 410 Bridge community... a close neighbor to the communities of Karima and Kwambekenya where we also work. Education is a major need here. Like many Kenyan communities, Kiria has an abundance of youth, who they recognize will be the future of their community. The primary school is in need of additional teachers and other things to improve the quality of education. This makes learning difficult, thus preventing many children from advancing to secondary school.

In this school there are not enough desks for each child. They share textbooks between several children, so they cannot take books home to do homework and there are many other supplies needed for the classrooms. They cannot afford to give assessment tests on a regular basis, so many children do not do well on their Grade 8 Final National Exam, which determines if they can continue into High School.

There is no money to feed them lunch (and this may be the only meal some children get because they come from impoverished families). The priority is to start feeding lunch to the children.
