Hey Jack - support for Jacob Odhiambo
Jacob Odhiambo, better known now as "hey Jack" was a street boy in Nairobi searching for every meal and living a very rough life. At 15, he fell off a moving train and lost both arms. He "was like a baby to people"... he had to have help dressing, eating, brushing his teeth, everything he did. He said that when people would see him, they were afraid, or sympathetic, or wouldn't look at him and children would run from him".
He was rescued and was one of the early residents at Christ Compassion Rehabilitation Center (CCRC) in Joska. He had no hope at that time, but learned about God, became a Christian and eventually dreamed of becoming a Pastor. He and the other children and staff at CCRC starting praying for a miracle.
As The 410 Bridge starting working in Joska, people started to meet and hear Jack's story, and eventually that miracle happened. Money was raised, Jack came to the U.S. in the summer of 2008, and was fitted with 2 prosthetic arms... and met thousands of supporters as he talked at BigStuf Camps, Churches and the Night for Africa (learn more about his story at www.410bridge.org, click on Hey Jack radio).
Jack still needs assistance in doing some things, so his brother is living with him in Nairobi. He has begun an intense one-on-one tutoring program, to earn his Secondary (High) School equivalency. His long-term goal that he has been dreaming and praying for may be realized... he would like to continue school to become a Pastor!
If you would like to participate in helping Jack meet his goals, you can help by sponsoring him. The living and tutoring costs are high, so we need 12 sponsors at $39/month to cover his costs to complete his High School degree. Click on "sponsor a child" at the top of this article to help Jack along the journey to succeed in becoming a Pastor.
