The village of Joska is a fast growing marketplace community. Located about 40 kilometers southeast of Nairobi, the town sits along the heavily traveled byway of Kangundo Road, making it accessible to people from neighboring communities. In addition, people are choosing to migrate from Nairobi into the village of Joska allowing them to live outside the city and commute to work. While Joska itself is home to about 2,000 people, within the last three years the community has experienced a rapid growth, making the ten-village region home to approximately 40,000 people. The population increase has been difficult to manage.

There are currently no public secondary schools and thus, education cannot easily be provided. These children must be sent to boarding schools and most families cannot afford these fees. There are other education needs in this community as well.
